plexiglass letters with magnets on facade of art center Beursschouwburg

What People Say
installation: façade signage

plexiglass and ferrit magnets

since 2012 ongoing
at the awning of art center Beursschouwburg
A. Ortsstraat 20-28, 1000 Brussels

On the building’s awning its name is misspelled in seven different ways: beurshowbrug, bourscaubirg, etc. This work shows the impossibility of the Dutch word Beursschouwburg in a multi-lingual Brussels context and in doing so touches on the essence of the art-center’s identity.

The work had its first appearance in the program 'I Fail Good Expo', October 2012. For the 50 years birthday season of the art center in 2015, the number 50 replaced the letters c and h in golden plexiglass.
The Beursschouwburg keeps the piece after an exhibition for meanwhile 9 years. With their 2015 slogan “unpredictable - unpronounceable” they embraced the concept of a user-related identity in their communication.

A follow-up work is "Colors of Shades" (2019)
in the Marolles, Brussels.
